Autumn, 2003 (The Minnesota North Woods) -- Here are a few early-October glimpses of Northern Minnesota, the area in which I spent most of my first 18 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again, when the woods are dressed in full Fall color, there is no more beautiful place on the planet. It's an exciting place to be: the weather is wonderful, the colors are dramatic, the wildlife are on the move, and for a short while, one is free of the memories of six months of winter and 40-below-zero temps and snowbanks the size of small mountains. Anyway, for now, at this point in time, the North Woods sisters are all dressed up and there's plenty going on, twenty-four seven.

Tech Notes: Once again, it was my Nikon D100 digital camera and one of my fave lenses, an AF-S Nikkor 28-70mm 2.8 D, bringing home the proverbial bacon (except for the grouse shots, where I opted for an AF-S Nikkor 80-200mm 2.8 D). I used a "Moose filter" to polarize the color shots and, because of the mobile nature of the situation, it was a tripod-free environment.
