| October, 2003 (The Black Hills, South Dakota) -- Because mountain goats spend much of their time in terrain where grass is scarce, they supplement their diet with a smattering of mosses, lichens, herbs, and selected woody plants, and when they have the proverbial feed bag on, they're not too concerned with a few humans milling around. As Ray says, "It's about the food, people." |

| Gearhead Notes: I suppose in most cases getting a full-frame image of a mountain goat is a big-glass situation, but some parts of the park, the animals are (unfortunately) a bit more accustomed to the 'sapiens tourista,' so a shortish to medium zoom is happening. This was also a relatively rare opportunity to use my Nikon D100, as speed was not a primary factor and I'll take those extra pixels, thank you. And, of course, the omnipresent Gitzo. They say the more gear you carry, the fewer photos you take. |
